
On February 20, 2015 in the Heydar Aliyev center located in Lokbatan Settlement, a ceremony commemorating the Khojaly tragedy was held. The event was attended by the Milli Majlis deputies, representatives of the regional Executive Power, Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan in our country, as well as scientific and cultural figures. The commemoration ceremony was also attended by representatives of the company AzMeCo. At the ceremony a minute of silence was observed in tribute to the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy.
In the night from 25 to 26 February, 1992 the Armenian armed forces from five directions attacked the town of Khojaly, where about 7,000 people Azerbaijani population had lived; in the same night the town of Khojaly was razed to the ground. As a result of the Khojaly genocide 613 people were killed, 1275 civilians were taken hostage. As a result of the tragedy more than a thousand civilians received bullet wounds of varying severity and became invalids. Among the dead there were 106 women and 83 small children, and 50 of them were old people.
